Are You Running Your Business Like A Business?

When looking at most people who start a home business, there are two distinct states that they operate from.

Do you know what they are?

They may be obvious to some, but most people live blind to this idea even though they are functioning from this point of action. You may even be one of these people. Don’t worry if you are. It’s not your fault and you can choose to change and take a new path.

Have you figured it out yet?

Well, here they are…

1. Running your business as a business.

OR

2. Running your business like a hobby.

So you may be asking yourself what’s the difference?

Here it is…

Running a business as a business has the potential to make you money.

But having a hobby costs you money.

Yes, you heard it right… having a hobby costs most people money.

Take a look at your business and ask yourself…

What mode am I operating my business from?

If you are working from the mode of hobby, no worries, It’s not your fault, and there is hope to turn things around.

Here is what you can do.

Take a good hard look at you hobby run business and ask yourself the following question…

What is it going to take to convert my business from a hobby to a profitable business?

Let me say that again…

A Profitable Business.

You may find when you ask this question that you discover that the business you are in is not the right one for you. If that’s the case, make a business decision to move on and do something else.

Whatever you do, keep your hobbies out of your business.

Is Fear Of Failure Overrated?

Fear Of Failure Is Overrated!

You have heard it before…

“Failure is not an option”

or my favourite one…

“I have a fear of failure”

To me that sounds like an excuse.

Do we really have a fear of failure or is it just the result of something else that is keeping us stuck.

Sometimes what we think are the roots of a particular issue are in fact the fruits.

Make sense?

We live in a world that is driven by success.

A world that likes to take failure and sweep it under the carpet and make like it never happened.

When I was building my technology business, this was a common issue among many people in the organization. They never wanted to focus on anything that looked like a failure. They missed out on so many great things that they could learn and help them to grow even better. When you think about it, you don’t really learn much from your successes, but your failures have so much to offer. Don’t sweep them under the rug in your business and life.

Seth Godin in his book Tribes discusses the concept “Fear Of Failure Is Overrated”

He shares…

“Fear of failure is actually overrated as an excuse. Why? Because if you work for someone, then, more often than not, the actual cost of failure is absorbed by the organization, not by you. If your product launch fails, they’re not going to fire you. The company will make a bit less money and will move on.

What people are afraid of isn’t failure. It’s blame. Criticism. We choose not to be remarkable because we’re worried about criticism.

Fear of criticism is a powerful deterrent because the criticism doesn’t actually have to occur for the fear to set in. Watch a few people get criticized for being innovative, and it’s pretty easy to convince yourself that the very same thing will happen to you if you’re not careful.”

So, fear of failure isn’t really fear of failure at all…

It’s fear of being criticized by others.

In the home based business and network marketing arena it is referred to as fear of rejection.

It is what hold so many people back from not even getting started.

What can you do about this?

There are two things that I have come to know as valuable that helped me get over this…

1. Have a strong WHY for what you are doing. One that can make you cry and you can refer to when times are challenging, and they will be in your business, to help keep you moving forward.

2. Just DO IT! Nike had it right when they shared this in their slogan. Just get out their and face your fears and do what you know you need to do to be successful in your business and life.

The Most Important Tool For Your Online Business!

How does it get any better than this.

So check your current autoresponder and see if they have the feature to allow people to email you and get on your list. Start using it now to grow your list.

The Secret Key To Leadership!

Do you know what the secret key to becoming a leader is?

When you hear the word leader or leadership, what comes to mind?

You probably think of words like, Coach, Mentor, CEO, Manager, or Boss.

These are people who lead others, or at least are in the position with the responsibility to lead others.

Taking all of the titles away and the understandings of what a leader means to you, what is left?

There is only one person left…

Have you guessed who that is?

Well, its YOU!

That’s right.

When all things are striped away of what we believe a leader to be we end of up YOU!

So, the secret key to leadership is simple.

BE A LEADER IN YOUR OWN LIFE.

That’s it.

Simple in concept but not easy for most people in their lives.

This is because most people are unwilling to be leaders in their own life and then wonder why nobody will follow them.

So how do you know if you are a leader in your own life?

Ask yourself this question…

“If I were my Boss, Sponsor, Business Partner, Mentor, Coach, would I follow me?”

This will tell you how much of a leader you are.

Don’t worry about the answer if it is not what you would like it to be.

It is important that you ask the question.

The next step is taking action to become more of the leader you wish to be lead by.

When I was starting on this journey of leadership development, the first place I started was looking for coaches and mentors that were leading in the way that I wanted to lead in.

Who are those people in your life?

What are you going to do today to become the leader that you were born to be?

The success of your business and life depends on it.

What Holds You Back?

Are You Willing To Do Whatever It Takes To Succeed In Your Business?

So, are you?

What limitations do you place on yourself that holds you back from the success that is waiting for you in your business and life?

There are 3 main things that I have come to know that hold people back.

Do you know what they are?

Well here you go…

  • Money
  • Relationships
  • The Past
  • Let me explain each of these to you.

    Money

    Something that keeps so many people stuck in their life. The lack there of it, usually makes people decide what can and can not be for them. So much energy is attached to it and it holds so many great people back. What would it be like if money did not play a role in any decision you made in your life? What would it be like if your relationship with money was fun, joyful, and exciting? What if your lack of money did not play a role in any decision that you made? Well guess what? It doesn’t have to! That’s right. I’ll say it again… It doesn’t have to! A great mentor and friend of mine always says, “Don’t make decisions in your business and life based on the money you don’t have in your pocket right now.” What would it be like for you to live that way? Try it out and see how your business will change.

    Relationships

    Another major thing that holds people back keeping them stuck in their business and live. I have found, in my experience with business, that people mix business with pleasure and make things personal. Now I am not saying to have fun together with the people you work with. Not at all. You have to have fun and enjoy and celebrate your successes along the way. What I am talking about is taking things personal. Once a business relationship becomes personal, it’s game over. Your success with that person is headed for a downward spiral and will not go anywhere good. This may sound a bit over the top, but it is true. I have experienced it in my previous business growing a multi-million dollar technology company. People get emotionally and personally attached to each other and then business decisions that may be hard to make don’t get done. So, don’t make business decisions based on personal relationships. When you start in business with a friend, then set the expectations up front that this is the case. It will save you time later. Trust me!

    The Past

    Something that almost everyone holds on too. In both business and life, the past is the past that got you to where you are, and for most people it is the predictor of the future. Yep, that’s right. Most peoples past predicts their future. You can be a psychic for most of the people in the world predicting their future based on their past. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There is hope for your future. It comes in this simple philosophy… “The past is the past and it is already done, what lies ahead for your future is based on what you choose to do right now.” So what will you choose at this very moment to change the prediction of your past from becoming your future?

    In summary, I leave you with these three things…

  • Don’t make decisions based on the money you don’t have right now.
  • Keep personal and business decisions in their own place. Don’t mix them up.
  • Live in the now, shaping your future by what you do today.
  • How will you choose to grow your business?

    Will you do whatever it takes?

    Most won’t.

    The choice is yours.

    What Are You Focused On?

    Was talking with my good friend Jimmy Roos today and we were came to discuss this topic of focusing on results.

    I have come to understand that it works in a way that most people don’t consider.

    Let me explain…

    So often when we are working on our business we are focused on the results.

    They may be daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly results.

    We spend so much time focused on them that we actually don’t take any time to take the action that would move us towards them.

    Sound familiar?

    Have you experienced that in your business or your life?

    Don’t get me wrong, having goals and targets to achieve are a good thing.

    You must have them to be able to strive for and have a way to measure your success….

    What I am talking about here is that we get so connected and almost obsessed with the results that we are paralyzed and don’t take any action.

    If you find yourself in this situation, then here is what you can do.

    1. Get your goals and targets written down and set for what ever time period you are working with.

    2. Now put them aside, only reviewing them at most 1 time per day. Don’t worry, they aren’t going to go anywhere or change on you if your aren’t looking at them or thinking about them.

    3. Spend your time on the activities that you know need to be done each and every day to move you towards them.

    4. Repeat the next day.

    That’s it.

    This will create in you a consistency and habit of moving forward towards your results, without the results themselves holding you back.

    Apply this in your business and life today, and watch how things will change for you over a period of time.

    Remember, the results will not show up right away.

    Keep the action consistent and over time you will see things growing and changing for you.

    What’s The Secret Story You Tell To Yourself?

    When it comes to building a business and life of your dreams, one of the key components that hold the over 95% of people back from being able to achieve it is this secret story that they are telling themselves.

    You know what I am talking about?

    RIGHT?

    It’s that story that plays back in your head every time that you hit an obstacle, have something challenging go on, or have something show up that you don’t know how to do about.

    You know the story’s …

    “I can’t do this.”

    “This is too hard.”

    “Who am I to do this kind of thing.”

    “I should just go back to what I am used to doing.”

    Just to name a few.

    The name of the game of the leaders and people who are successful in life and business is the overcoming this and writing a new script and story for their life. They focus energy and time on this each and every day until it becomes who they are.

    You see, success is about 90% being and 10% doing.

    Yes, you heard it right.

    It is not about the doing, although taking action is very important, it is about who you become.

    So here is a tool you can use to change this in your life.

    Once you have your goals and daily activities and to do list ready to get started for the day…

    Ask yourself this question:

    “Who do I need to BECOME today so that I can have the success and life of my dreams that I see in my head?”

    Now sit their still and see what comes up for you.

    Maybe it will be nothing. Maybe it will be a feeling of energy.

    What ever it is, just by asking the question will move you to a different state of mind for when the chatter of the noise comes back.

    Use this to move you through the the times where things are challenging. When that noise comes up, don’t ask “What do I need to do”, ask “Who do I need to BE!”

    Life is about the journey more than the destination.

    We live life out in the moments we are given.

    Become who you were born to be today!
